Everything was perfect for the now going to be 22 year old man, and he hadn’t even got half the presents everyone was going to give him. He was growing even more anxious as the cab seemed to be getting closer to wherever it was they were going. Darren seemed to have planned this all down to a tee and nevertheless he knew it was going to be spectacular like Darren continuously made things for him. Chris was more than appreciative to have a boyfriend like the dapper, Darren Criss. The boy never failed to make him smile like he was a little boy or make him feel like he deserved to be as happy as everyone else in the world. More than that, he made him feel special.
“Alright, I’ll give you that one,” told Chris with a smirk on his lips as he handed him the champagne class properly, making sure his clumsiness didn’t make him drop it. Kissing Darren was one of the things he looked forward to in a day, so he made the kiss last as long as he could and when their lips parted he sunk on the inside but smiled even more when he heard Darren’s words. “Well finally I get to see what you have been hiding from me,” he teased him as he grinned even more cheekily by Darren’s lips to his cheek, his cheek from the effect of the gesture making it turn red. He watched Darren open his door and got out with a nod at him, his thrilled face still remaining the same. “Thank you, love,” he said as he held his hand out for the other man to take.
Darren always strived to make Chris feel like the most important person in the world, because to him, he was. He’d been going after Chris for too long before he finally plucked up the courage to tell his fellow actor how he felt, and from there it had blossomed into this beautiful relationship they had now. And now that Darren had Chris, there was no way he was going to let go. The Starkid couldn’t imagine life without the writer, and it made him sorta sick to even think about that. So, with it being his boyfriend’s birthday, this was where Darren could go all out without being criticized for it, because it was a cause for celebration, and a cause to celebrate how he could spoil Chris on such a happy day. And boy, was he going to get spoiled.
Chuckling at what Chris said, Darren continued to press numerous kisses to the other’s soft lips until the little jolt that came from underneath them signalled that they had arrived, which caused him to pull away and get out of the cab, like he had done. Taking Chris’ hand in his own, Darren grinned happily and held the back of presents firmly in his hand, helping his lover out of the car before closing the door behind him. “You’re welcome, kind sir.” He replied in a mock British accent, chuckling to himself as he then put the bag on his arms and placed both his hands over Chris’ eyes. “Let me guide the way.” Darren whispered softly in the other actor’s ear, smiling as he then helped Chris through the doors before them and down the hall, eventually getting to where the party was being held at. Thankfully, everyone had gotten word of the birthday boy’s arrival and had hidden quietly, as planned. Then, Darren quickly removed his hands and jumped in front of Chris, throwing his hands in the air in unison with everyone else and cheering “Surprise!” loudly in chorus, grinning happily.

Chris usually would be on freak out mode about now, knowing that he loved surprises but he sometimes wanted to know too bad that he begged people to tell him. The anticipation to know was eating at him, wondering where they could even be going as places he knew they went to passed by through the car window. Darren and his surprises, and whatever they may be he knew that it would all turn out perfectly considering any day with him was practically the best days he ever seemed to have. Deep down, he knew that by the end of the night he wanted to spend some much needed alone time with Darren, seeing as though the man was always the most handsome guy he had ever seen. He enjoyed those moments of laying by each other’s side most of all, especially today.
“Unfair,” Chris told him with a grateful grin on his lips as he gazed up at Darren his eyes shutting for but a moment as Darren’s lips met his temple, feeling his stomach knot from the contact. He leaned his head against the side of Darren contently as the car ride went on, feeling Darren moving he sat up a bit to see what it was he was pulling out. A chuckle came from the younger actor as he looked at his boyfriend, taking the champagne glass and nodded his head at him as a thank you. “Well stay by my side and I will be,” commented Chris as he took a sip of the beverage and swallowed it down to get the taste of it. “Thank you for doing all this already,” he said happily and placed a sweet kiss upon Darren’s lips as he did, tasting the drink on his lips as he smiled, parting their lips.
If all the people he knew about were doing to turn up, this was sure to be a great birthday for his boyfriend. Whenever Darren planned parties before, they always seemed to go well, and everyone would love him for them afterwards. So hopefully this would go the same way. Besides, Chris deserved every good thing on the planet, and Darren always did his best to get that. Just the fact that he was able to call Chris Colfer his boyfriend meant the world to him, so this party would just be a small token of how important it was to him. As well as the present that was yet to come, which was probably more important than everything else, but the party was still a big thing, too.
“Not unfair. That’s what surprises are for.” Darren told him with a grin, drinking his champagne quickly before putting the glass back neatly in the bag. So far, it was going good, because all Chris had done was smile ever since he opened the front door. That was what he’d aimed for since the minute he got up. Smiling at what Chris said, Darren smiled and leaned over, kissing his boyfriend’s lips back softly and letting it last a few minutes before he felt the cab stopping, hesitantly pulling away and grinning as he looked out the window. “We’re here!” He chirped cheerfully, placing a peck on Chris’ cheek before he paid the driver and got out, walking around the other side and opening the door for his boyfriend.

Chris was oblivious to what was going on, like he always seemed to be when people planned to surprise him with something. Then again, he sensed that Darren had been wanting to do something big an extravagant but being his stubborn self he would never want him to think he had to do any such thing for him. His boyfriend was a beautiful birthday gift for him already, and knowing that they were together on this day was the greatest present of all for him. But, being the little kid he is he enjoyed the feeling of receiving gifts at the same time, in which that was something he could never deny. A smile tugged even wider when he heard the door beginning to open, not expecting to see Darren with his Starkidd sun glasses and a party hat placed upon his perfect dark curls. He was such a goober in more ways than one but after all, he was Chris’ goober.
A surprised chuckle escaped Chris’ lips as he shook his head from the amusement of Darren and his party blower. He was definitely a voice that made the Happy Birthday song one of the greatest songs to hear. “Thank you, baby,” he said in return with a large smile as his lips met Darren’s. He looked bewildered to hear that they were not going to be staying at Darren’s apartment. This must be one hell of a surprise. Chris thought as a another surprise smile formed on his lips. “What have you got planned, Darren Everett Criss?” he laughed with the use of his full name as he took Darren’s hand to follow behind him in the cab. He slid inside next to his boyfriend watching the balloons and the bag of present’s for him. He looked at his boyfriend, almost in amazement at what he was doing and he didn’t even know what the main surprise was yet. But he already felt the happiness that Darren continuously had over him.
Darren hoped with everything in him that this was going to work out. Chris deserved one hell of a birthday, so hopefully this was going to be it. Considering Darren’s character too, it would be pretty weird if he hadn’t had anything planned for his boyfriend. Besides, Darren Criss and parties always seemed to mix well together. And Chris seemed to enjoy a few drinks now that he was legal. From what he’d heard, last time the actor was properly drink, he tried to convince everyone that he was next in line for the British throne, which was pretty hilarious. If he was lucky enough, maybe Darren would get to see Chris properly drunk, although that didn’t matter. He just wanted his boyfriend to have a good time, more than anything.
Grinning when asked what he had planned, Darren playfully shrugged and wrapped an arm around Chris’ shoulders as they sat comfortably in the back of the cab, kissing his temple softly. “You’ll have to wait and see, Christopher Paul.” He chuckled, giving him a small squeeze and watching out the window. Going into the bag of presents he had, Darren pulled out a bottle of champagne and popped it open, then getting out two glasses and grinning as he poured them both some of the liquid. “Here’s a toast. To my amazing boyfriend’s 22nd birthday. May it be fun, and amazing, and may he be happy for the rest of his days.” He toasted with a grin, clanking his glass with Chris’ before he took a small sip, smiling softly at the other.

After grabbing his keys to his car and looked in the mirror one last time, fixing up anything that seemed out of place to him, Chris walked out of his small apartment and locked it up to be safe. He fiddled with his car keys in his hands as he reached his car and got into the driver’s seat to start it up. He revved the engine a bit before putting on his seat belt and backed out of the parking space to turn his car onto the main road on the way to Darren’s. His phone kept buzzing from tweets wishing him an early happy birthday and he smiled from the thoughts of people sending him birthday wishes. Though he was in a hurry, more than usual and the fact that his phone kept blowing up from the tweets was the least thing on his mind. His mind was in a twist, thinking of what Darren could have possibly put together for him for his birthday. He thought of possibilities but the boyfriend he had, was the most wonderfully unpredictable man he came to know. His stomach formed a somewhat nervous knot as his car pulled up the apartment complex that his boyfriend resided in.
Chris parked his car in his usual spot that he usually took over when he visited Darren and pulled the keys from the ignition to get out of the car. He shut the door and locked it in a hurried pace, his anxiousness to see his birthday present captivated the man in more ways than one. He made his way to the door, his mind still trying to pin point what exactly he was receiving as he approached the apartment door. His hand raised to knock on the wood softly, bouncing on the heels of his feet as he waited in anxiety to see. A smile was plastered already on the younger man’s face, just thinking about how incredible Darren treated him all the time. It made him feel all the more loved than he ever thought he deserved.
Darren had been planning pretty much all week. Chris’ birthday was coming up, and even though it wasn’t a special birthday, like his 18th or 21st, this was the first birthday that he could actually plan something, seeing as the actor was now his boyfriend, and he could go all out on the celebrations. He had come up with many ideas in the process. Drag him to Disneyland for a day and do something like Chord had done for Dianna, except he wouldn’t have proposed, it was too soon… maybe. Then he’d come up with a plan to send him a big delivery of flowers, balloons, then pop out of a big huge cake. Then there was simple birthday sex, which was a must anyway, but he needed something on top of that. So, Darren had decided on throwing him a huge party and had got on the phone to plenty of people, asking them to come along and very pleased with how much people had said they were going to turn up. If everything went as planned, this was hopefully going to be a great birthday for Chris.
Hearing the knock on the door, Darren grinned as he grabbed the balloons he’d bought and put on a party hat, accompanied by his signature pink sunglasses and a party blower before he scurried to the door, opening it quickly and grinning as he gave the party blower a blow. “Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday, dear Chriiiiiiiiiiis. Happy birthday to you!” He sang cheerfully, grinning when he put his sunglasses on top of his head and leaned over to give his boyfriend a kiss. “You might as well turn around, because we’re going out, Mr. Birthday Boy.” He said with a cheeky grin, nodding in satisfaction when a cab had pulled up outside the house as he turned Chris around. Keeping a hold on the balloons, with Chris’ presents in a bag he’d just grabbed, the curly haired actor grabbed the writer’s hand and dragged him towards the cab, telling the driver where to go as he sat down and got comfortable in the back.
I'm a fan of apple juice and Red Vines. Those are basically my every day needs. I also go everwyhere with at least 1 pair of Ray Bans, because they're just the coolest things I own. And if you try and steal them, you might just live to regret it. Just a warning for you. I'm also known mostly as the hobbit, because of how short and apparently hairy I am.
